Hello my name is Mechel and I have been working with David Mahler since 2019.
My 1st amputation of my right leg, above knee, was October 23, 2019 and my 2nd Amputation was June 17th 2021.
I must say is was the scariest of events in my entire 54 years alive.
Day 2 of waking up from my surgery, David walked through the door and put a huge ray of sunshine into my hospital room.
Laying there with an Ipop on my leg thinking that maybe I made a mistake, he gave me all the hope I needed to get to where I am today.
I liked & Immediately trusted him from the very minute he spoke.
He made everything clear to me about the process of being an amputee and the process of learning to live in a prosthetic.
Even covering the emotional challenge that I would have to endure As Time went on.
I've seen him many many times in the last couple of years, he is not only my doctor, he is my friend !
He has done nothing but support me and guide me through this process each day. Always present in this journey, always a call returned or a next plan in progress !
I learned how difficultt my life really is but we all know
that pushing through the fear will get us to where we need to be, with David by my side through this journey, I am confident that I will succeed !!
We are we are now working on finishing up my permanent leg, learning how to do steps, possibly getting into a swimming leg this summer
and by next year my goal is to run again !!
I am grateful with all of my heart to David and his staff, for I will never work with another person in this journey that I'm traveling !
My commute is almost 3 hours to go to his facility, which I must add is beautiful and comforting,
and if I had to travel 10 hours I would !
The care, the treatment and expertise at AFI is why I have the courage to finish this fight !!! I always say this. .
I Am, and Will Be, Forever Grateful To David Mahler and His Staff At AFI!
